Discussing Interesting Africans

Teachers were given the task of discussing the lives of ten famous Africans.  In small groups they decided which four of the ten people given were the most interesting and then justified their choices.

After lively discussions, in English of course, each group presented their choices to the whole class.

The purpose of the activity was to build the teachers' confidence in speaking English and to give them an example of an activity that encourages student participation

  1. Enjoying your blog very much. The picture of the classroom with children 4 to a desk and on the floor is very remiscent of my visit to Kigoma last year.
A recent initiative has been the establishment
of the Hassan Maajar Trust which aims to
raise funds for providing desks for all
Government schools in Tanzania. This charity
has been established in memory of Hassan
Maajar, son of the former High Commissioner
to UK (and a very good friend of BTS / TDT)
and now H.C. to USA, Her Excellency
Mwanaidi Maajar. Hassan was tragically killed
in a hit and run accident in Swaziland shortly
after Mwanaidi’s appointment to the UK.
The Hassan Maajar Trust is now partnered
with Bank M as corporate sponsor and they
have already started joint initiatives to raise
    TSh. 200m (£80,000) for desks.
Looking forward to seeing news of your TDT funded project work.
